Texas City Dike & Desegregation
The Texas City Dike is annexed and becomes a recreational center. Hurricane Carla causes much destruction of property. A new public library building, a new city hall, and a new swimming pool are constructed. Desegregation of schools takes place. College of the Mainland opens in 1967.
In 1970 the population of Texas City was 38,908 people.
