Texas City Fire Department began its Emergency Medical Services in 1992 with a First Responder Program that has grown with the Fire DepartmentEMS Staff and EMS Vehicles as it changed from a single role service to a multidiscipline service. In 2005 the City's private ambulance provider pulled out, the third such provider to do so in 10 years. Texas City established a separate EMS Department with assistance from the Fire Department.

In Late 2007 the City Commission merged the separate EMS Department into the Fire Department which provided for better functionality, command, and savings to the taxpayer.

Today Texas City Fire Department operates a highly respected and efficient EMS service that constantly seeks new and better ways to serve our community.
